What to Expect When Getting New Windows and Doors Installed

From First Enquiry to Finished Installation

Deciding to replace your windows and doors is the straightforward part. Working out what happens next is where a lot of homeowners feel less certain.

Knowing what the process involves makes the whole thing considerably less daunting. It also helps you prepare properly, ask the right questions early, and avoid surprises along the way. Here’s a clear walkthrough of what to expect when you work with Windows & More Australia.

Step 1: Getting in Touch

The process starts with a phone call or an enquiry through our contact page. At this stage, you don’t need to have everything figured out. You don’t need to know exactly which products you want, which colours suit your home, or precise measurements. That’s what the measure and quote visit is for.

What’s useful to have in mind before you call is a general sense of what you’re hoping to achieve. Are you replacing worn windows across the whole house? Adding a sliding door to the back living area? Upgrading the front entry? Even a rough picture gives us enough context to organise the right visit.

Step 2: The Measure and Quote Visit

The measure and quote visit is where the important decisions get made. One of our team comes to your home, assesses the openings, takes precise measurements, and walks through product options with you. The visit is free and carries no obligation.

During the visit, we look at each opening you want to address and discuss what suits it best. We cover product styles, glass types, frame colours, and screen options. If you’re undecided on any of these, that’s fine. Part of our job is helping you work through the options with confidence. Our guide to choosing the right window style and guide to choosing the right door style are also worth reading ahead of the visit if you want a head start.

Before we arrive, clear the area around the windows and doors we’re assessing. That gives us easy access and allows us to measure accurately. If you have images of styles or colours you like, bring those to the conversation too.

Step 3: Receiving and Reviewing the Quote

After the visit, we put together a detailed quote covering the products, installation, and any associated work. We aim to turn quotes around promptly, because waiting on a number before you can make a decision is frustrating.

Once you have the quote, take the time you need to review it carefully. If anything is unclear, or if you want to revisit a product choice or colour decision, get in touch before you confirm. Adjusting a specification at the quote stage is straightforward. Adjusting it after manufacturing has begun is considerably less so.

Step 4: Manufacturing and Lead Times

Once you accept the quote and confirm the order, your windows and doors go into manufacturing. We build them to the exact measurements taken during the visit. They’re not off-the-shelf products. Consequently, there is a lead time between order confirmation and delivery.

Lead times vary depending on the products ordered and the manufacturer’s current schedule. We give you a clear timeframe when you confirm your order so you can plan around it. It’s worth flagging the expected installation date with anyone in the household who needs to be home, and notifying your builder if structural work is part of the job.

Step 5: Preparing for Installation Day

A little preparation before our team arrives makes the day run more smoothly.

Clear the area around each window and door being replaced, both inside and outside the home. Move furniture, pot plants, and stored items away from the work zones. If you have curtains, blinds, or shutters on the existing windows, take these down beforehand if possible. Similarly, removing existing fly screens before we arrive saves time on the day.

If you have pets, it’s worth making arrangements for them before installation day. During the job, there will be periods where window and door openings are completely clear while old frames are removed and new ones are being fitted. For dogs and cats in particular, an unscreened opening at ground level is an escape opportunity they may not hesitate to take. Aside from that, the noise from drilling and general construction activity can be stressful for animals who aren’t used to it. Keeping pets in a secure room well away from the work zones, or arranging for them to spend the day with a neighbour or family member, makes the day easier for everyone, your pets included.

Finally, let everyone in the household know there will be some noise. Removing old frames and fitting new ones involves drilling and general construction activity. It’s normal and it doesn’t go on all day, but it’s worth knowing about in advance.

Step 6: The Installation

On installation day, our team arrives, confirms the scope of work, and gets started. We remove old frames carefully, prepare the openings, and fit and secure the new windows and doors.

We check each product for smooth operation, correct alignment, and proper sealing before we consider the job complete. If anything needs adjustment, we address it on the day. At the end of the installation, we remove all old frames and materials from the property and leave the work areas clean and tidy.

Step 7: After the Installation

Before we leave, we walk you through each product. We show you how everything operates, how the locks engage, and how to use any adjustable features. If you have questions about keeping your new windows and doors in good condition, our guide to caring for your aluminium windows and doors covers the essentials in detail.

From that point, everything is ready to use. If anything comes up in the days after installation that you’d like us to look at, get in touch and we’ll sort it out promptly.
